I wasn't happy with the way certain historical characters were portrayed, especially Lightoller (I mean they shredded the poor guy) and I found the storyline with the Jack/Rose romance ridiculous, but I LOVED the ship! If you forget all the R and R nonsense, you can settle in and realise that the REAL star of the movie is the Lady Herself!
Seeing the ship recreated turned out to be most helpful when researching a novel about the disaster that I am writing, so I appreciated Cameron's attention to detail both as a writer and dyed-in-the-wool TITANIC buff!

I agree. The Jack/Rose relationship...well it was cute but now when you watch the movie it seems quite hilarious. But entertaining. And I agree that Lightoller, how could they shred him to pieces? I do agree that some liberties are good when making a movie and needs to be taken but so completely shred someone into pieces...arghg!
I like Victor Garber's portrayal of Thomas Andrews. In my opinion he made the character more human than anyone has before and when Titanic sank the look in his eyes... it seemed like he could feel the mortal wounds his ship has.
