I remember seeing something a long long time ago on TV where they had brought up a safe from the Titanic and cracked it open on live television. Does anyone remember this? It had contents in it too, I think there was a pocket watch in there and it was actually returned to the family of the person it belonged to. Can anyone help me out with this?

NO, there was a show on TV, I think I was about 10 or so when it aired (so we are talking about 17 years ago)...I remember it, just not clearly enough. I have searched the net, but no luck (I might just not be searching for the right thing though) Brittanic...yes, I know about the coal. When I went to the exhibit in Toronto of the artifacts, they had it there for purchase. It was $40 Canadian a piece. I would have bought one, if my boyfriend at the time had let me (he though it was a waste of money) so instead I bought some other stuff!

I found a reference!!! It was at this site: www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A372584And here is what it said: In spite of the controversy, the artifacts were well received. In August of '87, the artifacts were displayed to the American public on "Return to the Titanic... LIVE," hosted by the late Telly Savalas. The highlight of this show was to be the first opening of a safe recovered from the pursor's office. This safe had already been inspected and photographed prior to the show, and they reveal that the entire back had rusted out, and was completely empty. Just before the show, a false back was welded on, and the safe was stuffed with artifacts recovered from the site. So it was in 87 which makes me 10 years old (my memory is better than I thought)! LOL Although now that I've read this, I'm thoroughly disapointed because I didn't know it was a hoax... I thought all this time it was real

I thought all this time it was real I was probably about 8 or 9 years old when that special aired, I don't remember it! *laughs*
