Greetings fellow Titanic1912 Forum Members!
Anyone remember the 1996 mini-series, hosted by CBS?
The mini-series starred Catherine Zeta-Jones, Peter Gallagher, George C. Scott and Tim Curry. It was the first film to show the Titanic splitting in two during the sinking sequence.
The movie wasn't particularly 'great', but it was a nice attempt by the movie producers. Worth noting was their attempt to display the horror experienced by the Allison family.
For those individuals reading the forum who may be unfamiliar with the Allison family, their story is as follows:
Mr. Hudson Joshua Creighton Allison and Mrs. Bessie Waldo Allison were traveling first class on Titanic. Their cabin was located on C-Deck; they reserved rooms 22, 24 and 26. Mr. & Mrs. Allison were traveling with their two children, Helen Loraine and Hudson Trevor (staying with nannies in the two additional suites); other Allison family servants traveled in second class.
During the sinking, Mrs. Allison was placed in a lifeboat but refused to leave the ship without her baby, Trevor. Unbeknownst to Mr. & Mrs. Allison, Trevor had been lowered in lifeboat eleven (11) with his assigned nanny. Mrs. Allison left the lifeboat, with Loraine, and began to search for Trevor.
Mr. & Mrs. Allison spent the remainder of the evening, with Loraine, searching for Trevor. The three perished, only Mr. Allison’s body was recovered.
In the mini-series, there were several facets of the Allison story omitted; but one must give the writers kudos for acknowledging their family tragedy. If you have not seen this version of Titanic, you may find a copy at your local video store or DVD retailer.
